Health and Cycling – Benefits of Cycling
In addition to being good for the environment due to reduced carbon dioxide emissions, regular cycling improves the prospects for a longer lifespan.
Ten years ago, a study on lifestyle habits involving 400,000 people was conducted in Taiwan.
It is a process that lasted a full 8 years, and the results showed that 15 minutes of cycling daily is enough to extend life expectancy by 3 years.
Interestingly, the respondents did not prove to be great athletes, but on the contrary, they recognized the importance of moderate, yet regular recreation.
Another study, this time in Norway, provided a similar overview of the situation.
By analyzing the obtained sample, researchers observed that regular cycling in men aged between 70 and 80, or stretching exercises, extends life by an average of 5 years.
Increase in muscle mass and better quality sleep
Replacing driving other modes of transport with a bicycle reduces the chances of a heart attack and other heart problems.
Research conducted by the American Heart Association has shown that increasing muscle mass reduces the risk of heart disease by as much as 42 percent.
However, that is not the end of the benefits. By practicing this habit, we correctly channel our excess energy, which at the end of the day brings a peaceful sleep.
Confirmation of this thesis comes from practice, where individuals who regularly ride a bicycle, or at least exercise, have shown better sleep quality compared to others who lead a predominantly sedentary lifestyle.
The figure of 8,000 study participants is quite sufficient to draw a valid conclusion.
If all this is not enough reason for you to think in this direction, perhaps you will be lured by the increased secretion of endorphins, which not only improves mood, but also prevents stress.
