Zelensky: February 16 is the day of the attack on Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he has heard Russia might attack Ukraine on Wednesday, February 16, and that they will declare that day a day of national unity.
Zelensky did not reveal where these claims are coming from, but several US organizations reported last week that Washington believes February 16 is the date when Russian forces will be ready for action if Russian President Vladimir Putin gives the green light, Reuters points out.
„They are telling us that February 16 will be the day of the attack. We will make it the day of unity,“ Zelensky said in a video address to the nation.
„They are trying to intimidate us by re-announcing the date for the start of military action,“ he added.
Zelensky stated that he signed an order for national flags and yellow-and-blue banners to be displayed on that day, Reuters writes.
He also called on all state officials, politicians, and business people who have left the country to return within 24 hours because the Ukrainian people have entrusted them with the management of the state, as well as its defense.
Moscow has prepared a ten-page document that represents a reaction to the US and NATO response to its demands for security guarantees. G7 finance ministers warned Moscow of „massive“ economic consequences of a potential attack on Ukraine.
As a reminder, in recent weeks Russia has amassed more than 100,000 troops on its border with Ukraine, but denies Western claims that it is planning an invasion.
