„The breaks are 15 minutes every four hours. The first break after four hours is 15 minutes, after the next four hours there is a half-hour meal break, after another four hours there is another 15-minute break, and then you work until the end of the shift. That is really exhausting, and you can only work like that for two months.

Those are companies that work with salmon, and that is done in June and July. There are several companies, some are divided into 12-hour shifts, some 16 and a half hours, and there are also those where there are no shifts, everyone works one shift. If there is fish you work, if there isn't you don't work, you have a day off. Then the next day you work six, eight, 10 hours, it depends on how much fish there is,“ she explained.

She also talked about the accommodation where she stayed, as well as the food.

„As for the accommodation, you can get anything from a tent – one year the men slept in a tent – to, say, one year I was in a trailer, like a container trailer. There was only one metal bunk bed and nothing else, and my things stayed packed in a suitcase for three months.

When it comes to the food, that depends on the cook; they have a good selection, but it's a question of what kind of cook it is—whether they're Filipino or Mexican. The food is diverse; you always have a little soup, two or three types of dishes, you can choose, there's fruit, sweets, you won't stay hungry, but after a month you get sick of everything, Iva said.
