Pritzker flooded the election with money: Over $25 million for his campaign from his own pocket

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker entered the election year with a financial advantage rarely seen in American politics.

According to official campaign finance data, Pritzker poured as much as $25.5 million of his own money into his campaign for a third term at the end of 2025, easily outpacing all potential Republican opponents.

Pritzker, heir to the Hyatt hotel empire and a billionaire whose fortune is estimated by Forbes at around $3.9 billion, has approximately $23.3 million in cash on hand after campaign expenses. During that period, he spent just over $2.8 million, including donations to other Democrats, among them Alexi Giannoulias and the Illinois Democratic Party.

Pritzker's ability to self-fund his campaign gives him a massive advantage over the Republican candidates. Among them, Ted Dabrowski and Rick Heidner have the most money, but both ended the year with just over $1 million in their campaign accounts. In the final quarter, Dabrowski raised about $100,000 while spending nearly $350,000. Heidner invested $1 million of his own money, but he also had significant expenses.

It is interesting that, despite more modest finances, former gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey is currently leading in early polls with about 34% support, even though he ended the year with just a bit over $35,000.

The Illinois primary elections are scheduled for March 17, while early voting begins on February 5. However, given the huge financial disparity, it is clear that Pritzker enters the race with a nearly unbeatable starting position.
