Wisconsin: Armed man kills two people in casino attack
An armed attacker killed two people in a restaurant at a popular casino in Wisconsin. He also seriously wounded one person before police killed him, authorities stated.
Brown County Sheriff's Lieutenant Kevin Pawlak said the shooting at the Oneida Casino in Green Bay appeared to be a targeted attack. The shooting occurred on Saturday night, May 1st.
„He was targeting a specific victim who wasn't there. He decided to kill some of the victim's friends or colleagues anyway, it seems,“ Pawlak said.
The authorities have not yet released the identity of the gunman or his victims.
Pawlak was not sure if the shooter was a former restaurant employee. However, he said that „it appears there is some connection having to do with employment.“.
„Whether everyone worked there or not, we are still working on the case,“ he said.
The injured person was treated at a hospital in Milwaukee, Pawlak said.
The attack occurred around 7:30 p.m. at a casino operated by the Oneida Nation, whose reservation is located on the west side of the city of Green Bay.
Witness Jawad Yatim stated that he saw an armed attacker shoot at least two people.
„I know of at least two for sure, because it happened right next to us, literally right next to us,“ Yatim said. „He was shooting pretty aggressively inside the building, so I wouldn't doubt that more people were hit.“
Yatim said the shooting started in the casino restaurant. „We barely escaped. Thank God we are okay, but obviously we wish the best to everyone affected,“ he said.
State Attorney General Josh Kaul announced on the Twitter network that there is no longer a threat to the community.
