Cities with the lowest cost of living in Illinois

Niche magazine has ranked the cities in each state with the lowest cost of living in 2023. The list considered housing, food, fuel costs, and tax rates when measuring overall affordability and the cost of living in the area.

Using data from the US Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Internal Revenue Service, the group analyzed median rental prices, median home values, monthly housing costs relative to income, and much more.

White Hall ranked first for the lowest cost of living in Illinois. The city is located between Springfield and St. Louis.

Other cities in the top five are Johnston City, Eldorado, Bridgeport, and Jonesboro, and they are located in the southern half of Illinois. The list of the 50 cheapest cities in Illinois includes:
