Queen Elizabeth's first birthday without Prince Philip
British Queen Elizabeth the Second celebrated her 95th birthday. This is the first occasion for celebration in the Windsor family since the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince Philip passed away on April 9th of this year. The Royal Family announced that the duke was at Windsor Castle the entire time, surrounded by his family. A month before his death, he spent some time in a hospital due to a heart procedure.
The funeral of the Queen's husband took place on Saturday, in a quiet ceremony attended by the immediate family. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, only 30 guests attended the funeral. Among them were Queen Elizabeth, Princes Charles, Andrew and Edward with their families, as well as Prince Philip's only daughter, Princess Anne.
On the guest list were Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, as well as Prince Harry, who came without his wife Meghan Markle. Her doctor had forbidden her to travel due to her advanced pregnancy, but she found a way to pay tribute to her husband's grandfather.
The grand celebration for Queen Elizabeth's birthday was canceled due to the coronavirus, and now all her activities are on hold as she observes the period of mourning for her husband.
She sent a message to the citizens of Great Britain, as well as to the whole world, in which she thanked them for the messages of support.
„Today I have received many messages on the occasion of my 95th birthday, which I appreciate very much. We as a family are in a period of mourning, but it brings us great comfort to see and hear so many of your messages, in which you pay tribute to my husband. The messages have arrived from all parts of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and the world.
My family and I want to thank all of you for the support you are giving us these days. We are deeply moved and you have reminded us that Filip had an incredible impact on many people during his life.
On the day of the Queen's birthday, Prince William and Kate Middleton visited one of Prince Philip's military patronages, the Air Cadets, because Philip was once a member of the Royal Navy.
In 2015, the Duke of Edinburgh handed over this patronage to the Duchess of Cambridge, who then became the Honorary Air Commandant.
