She tried to hire a hitman to get rid of the wife of the man she fell in love with (VIDEO)
A Tennessee woman allegedly paid to hire a hitman to kill the wife of a man she met on a dating website, according to a criminal complaint, ABC News reports.
Melody Sasser was arrested on May 18 and is being held in custody on suspicion of allegedly trying to hire a hitman. She is accused of transferring about $10,000 in bitcoin to a site called the „Online Hitman Marketplace“ in exchange for the murder of the wife of a man she met on a dating website, federal agents said in a May 11 indictment.
Sasser and the man she met on Match.com became hiking friends, according to the indictment. But when the man revealed to her that he was moving out of state with a woman he planned to marry, Sasser allegedly turned to the „dark web,“ according to the complaint.
Under the pseudonym „cattree,“ Saserova allegedly published her plan on a website, authorities said.
„It has to look like an accident or happen by chance. Or plant drugs on her, I don't want a long investigation,“ she posted on January 11, according to the indictment.
Sasoon's defense attorney, M. Geoffrey Witt, declined a request from ABC News for comment.
Sasser showed up unannounced at the couple's new home in Alabama in the fall of 2022, authorities said. „I hope you both fall off a cliff and die,“ she reportedly told the couple, after learning of their plans to get married, according to the indictment.
Around that time, the future wife of the man she was paired with reported that an unknown perpetrator had „keyed“ both sides of her car, according to the indictment. The woman also began receiving threatening calls from untraceable numbers, authorities added.
Sasser allegedly provided the would-be killer with detailed information about her partner's wife, including where she lived, where she worked, and what car she drove, authorities said. She also allegedly passed along specific information about the potential victim's whereabouts. Authorities said she found this information from a fitness tracking app, which connects to fitness watches and shares location data.
„Yesterday she worked from home and went on a three-kilometer walk by herself,“ Sasser allegedly wrote on a hitman-for-hire website in March. Authorities stated they later confirmed, through a hiking app, that the information she provided to the „online hitman marketplace“ was accurate.
In late March, after her intended target remained alive, Sasser grew impatient, authorities wrote in a complaint, and allegedly messaged the website administrator again to check on the status of her murder-for-hire request.
„I waited for two months and 11 days and the work is not finished... What kind of delay is that? When will it be done?“, she reportedly wrote.
