Storm hits US East Coast: Four people dead, thousands left without power (VIDEO)

At least four people died in a powerful storm that hit the East Coast of the US, causing floods, massive power outages, and flight cancellations.

One woman died in floods near Charleston, South Carolina, and three men lost their lives in Massachusetts, Maine, and Pennsylvania in the northeastern United States as the storm moved toward Canada, the BBC reports.

Several million residents of the East Coast are on flood alert, and more than 600,000 households are without power.

The weather conditions brought heavy rain that led to river flooding, the US National Weather Service (NWS) announced. Wind gusts reached speeds of 113 kilometers per hour along the southern coast of New England.

Due to strong wind and heavy rain, driving conditions are very difficult and dangerous.

More than 4,900 flights are delayed, and about 500 have been canceled. The airports in Boston and New York are the hardest hit, according to FlightAware.
