Elon Musk is leaving the Trump administration after 130 days of service

Elon Musk is officially stepping down from President Donald Trump's administration, ending his role as a „special government employee,“ a senior White House official confirmed to ABC News.
On the social media network X, Musk thanked President Trump for the opportunity and pointed out that his team from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will continue to operate within government structures. „As my time as a special government employee draws to a close, I want to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to cut wasteful spending,“ Musk wrote. He added that the DOGE mission „will only grow stronger over time and become part of the everyday work of government.“
Musk had a limit of 130 days of work in this status, and that limit expires as early as Friday, May 30. His role within the administration was focused on identifying and eliminating unnecessary expenses within the federal government.
His withdrawal comes immediately after he publicly criticized President Trump's latest budget proposal, which further attracted the attention of the media and analysts. Although it has not been specified whether this criticism influenced the decision on his withdrawal, the timing is notable.
Musk remains active on social media, where he continues to comment on political and economic issues. His brief but intense involvement in the government left the impression of an attempt by a tech leader to apply the principles of efficiency and the private sector to state administration.
