Child injured on carnival ride in Antioch (VIDEO)

A 10-year-old child fell from a carnival ride on Sunday, July 16, in Antioch, police department members reported. At around 2:40 p.m. local time, police stated that a child was injured at the Taste of Antioch festival.

The child was transported to the hospital, and the child's health condition is unknown. Another child who was on the Moby Dick ride stated that the safety bar hit him over the head several times and that he had to secure it.

„My restraint went above my head, so every time I went up, I almost fell out. I had to pull the restraint down to close it so I wouldn't fall out,“ said Elliott Johnson. Mayor Scott Gartner used his executive powers and shut down all rides until a safety review is completed, the police department announced.

„We always try to provide these kinds of fun family events. I hope the child who fell recovers,“ said Mayor Gartner. „I also have two young daughters. We must make sure that something like this never happens again.” Illinois and Antioch police and fire departments are investigating the incident.
