Another delegation of US officials in Taiwan

A delegation of US lawmakers has arrived in Taiwan, marking yet another visit in a series of trips by American officials.

The US diplomatic mission in Taiwan stated that eight lawmakers, led by Democrat Stephanie Murphy, will remain in Taiwan until Friday, September 9, as part of a visit to the Indo-Pacific region, Reuters reported.

„The delegation will meet with senior Taiwan officials to discuss Washington-Taipei relations, regional security, trade and investment, as well as several other important issues of mutual interest,“ the statement adds.

Tensions in the region rose after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in early August, followed by several other US officials visiting the island. 

China strongly protested the visits of US officials and subsequently conducted military exercises in the Taiwan Strait.
