America is preparing for a potential conflict – Congress has called for strengthening nuclear forces

The nuclear forces of the United States are poorly prepared for a potential conflict against Russia and China, and they need quantitative and structural changes, according to a report by a bipartisan congressional commission.

Lawmakers consider that, given that the nuclear arsenals of the two nations could simultaneously be at the same level as that of the US, the planned modernization of nuclear forces is „necessary, but insufficient.“.

A nuclear conflict with Russia and China was called increasingly likely by the study's authors, who suggest that decisions regarding force deterrence be made now in order to successfully respond to „existential“ challenges that will emerge during 2027-2035, Sputnik reports.
