The latest report ranks the best schools in Illinois. Several schools from the Chicago area are in the top 10. The report covers elementary and high schools.

The list, compiled by U.S. News & World Report, considered data from more than 80,000 public elementary and high schools across the country, ranking them at the state and district levels.

High schools are also included in this year's report.

The rankings were made based on math and reading skills or based on how students performed on national knowledge assessments.

Illinois is the 5th state in order with the most elementary schools on that list, as many as 2,000 of them.
