The court's decision is particularly important for citizens who survived mass shootings, including residents of the suburb of Highland Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By decision of the Illinois Supreme Court, the constitutionality of the Illinois Protect Illinois Communities Act has been upheld, including the weapons ban introduced after the Highland Park mass shooting. \u201eThe ban prevents the next mass shooting.\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Illinois Supreme Court upholds state&#039;s ban on semiautomatic weapons\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DkC8e4s0Tuc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering issued a statement praising the court's decision. \u201eCongress must take the next step and work to prevent mass shootings so that we can once again live free from this type of terrorism.\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governor Pritzker welcomed the court's decision, calling it \u201ea victory for survivors and families.\u201c The governor's opponent, Darren Bailey, characterized the decision as an attack on the state, the Constitution, and citizens\u201e Second Amendment rights. \u201cI won't let anyone come and take anything from me.
