The study was published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. The study states that 68,100 children aged 6 and younger in Chicago were exposed to lead-contaminated drinking water. Also, 19,100 children use unfiltered tap water for drinking.

Researchers published an assessment of lead exposure based on 38,385 lead tests collected from January 2016 to September 2023. Water is contaminated if the majority of tests within a block had more than 1 ppb, which is the detection limit for lead water tests.

A study has warned that elevated blood lead levels in children can cause cognitive developmental deficits and other health difficulties. The study emphasized that bottled water is not necessarily less contaminated with lead than tap water.

The city of Chicago states that its water lead testing shows the water meets Environmental Protection Agency standards. Chicago has 380,000 lead service lines. Officials estimate that replacing the service lines will cost up to $9 billion.

SOURCE: CBS NEWS | PHOTO: YOUTUBE

Studija objavljena u ponedeljak 18. marta navodi da je 129.000 dece mlađe od 6 godina iz Čikaga izloženo olovu u vodi za piće.
